I would like some assistance from as many members as possible to do a quick test for me. In the online shop under "Free Software" category is Dooghans "Australian Contours" and I need to know what your download speed is please. Click on the title of the product to start the download but save rather than run so that you can see what your download speed is. I am currectly getting 25kb/s for the first 5 seconds and then drops to 10kb/s.

You will only need to download the first few 100KB to test it.

What average speed are you getting, the broadband or Dial Up service you have and which ISP are you with? I am with IINET on ADSL2+.

we should be getting 100kb, so who is at fault? The server is in USA and Netfirms are saying they are getting 100kbs. I have delt with US servers many times and a lot of them can get up to 250kbs.

Telstra ADSL 1 service 1500/256. Down in Tassie where we still have phone lines made of wood.

It seems to be even slower this morning - down to about 3KB/sec

Hey Nicko, I'm using an accelerator plus adsl2 and its only 65.7kb/s would normally be 10 times that speed. I can download 200 mb in about 10mins

I couldn't find it under Free Software section but I tried Tracks4Australia (39mB) and it was the same speed as last week(?) 20kb dropping to 14kB.

With Tracks4Australia - Couldn't find Contours.
Exactly the same as my last test a few days back!
16.2kbs constant here in NZ
slingshot.co.nz
8Mb/s

However if I use my favourite download manager Flashget
82kbs - That is unusual - normally very similar.

Repeated twice 10 minutes apart.
Usual best download speed on a good day here 600+kbs.
Don't think they have fixed much.

Same here, I am just going to have to look elsewhere, I mean, to get 32-37kb/s from a .ru site makes this USA server look archaic

Nev
18th May 2007, 01:30 PM
A good friend in Bairnesdale is using a US provider.
I can't remember the exact details. Something like 3500GB/month, 5 Domains etc. About US$10/month. Just checked download speed at 470kbs.
Will PM details when he logs onto Skype.

If there is anyone overseas (apart from Tassie and NZ ;) ) can check the download speed for the shonky or contours Australia it would be appreciated. The second shonky download link is the one to check, the slow one, it seems to me that Netfirms are either pulling the wool over my eyes or their service is deteriorating that they can't keep up. Pocileh would be great if you could check for me too.

Hi Stevez, not the online shop but within the forum under map australia wide for shonky and contours australia are the links I am referring to. As to the Online Shop button, directly above it is a banner that says "GPS Australia Online Shop. Click here to buy Your GPS" :)

OK, that other shop link works.
Lucky too - as I was in the mood to buy something this morning!

Doohgan's Contour Maps issue is me, sorting out the link. I will have another go at it. Contours Australia is on the same server as ShonkyMaps, that being gpstechnologies.com.au thus will have the same download speed. I now get 25KB/s instead of the original 12kb/s a second. A bit better but still sub standard. Maybe others who did an early check do a recheck and come back with some new results?
